Monticello Holds Off Pontiac

The Monticello Sages scored late and held off Pontiac in an 18-10 victory Friday night in Illini Prairie Conference football action from Monticello on Homecoming night.

 

Nathan Harman ran for a 68-yard touchdown in the first quarter then caught a two-yard pass in the fourth quarter, Devin Graham caught a 72 yard touchdown in the second quarter and Monticello’s defense kept Pontiac’s power run game quiet after they scored to lead 7-0 early in the first.

 

Harman caught a short two-yard touchdown to extend the Monticello lead to 18-7 and after a 35-yard field goal by Cam Dawson, Monticello stood up to one last challenge and took down the Indians.

 

Brayden Snyder went 14-for-25 for 195 yards, throwing for two touchdowns and also threw two interceptions. He also carried the ball for 58 yards on 15 carries.

 

Harman accounted for 104 yards on the ground and Alek Bundy picked off Ethan Lee twice.

 

Johnny Dawson caught five passes for 64 yards and Graham finished with 78 yards through the air.

 

Austin Norman carried 23 times for 107 yards, with zero net yards in the second half on seven carries.

 

Pontiac drops to 4-3 overall while Monticello improves to 6-1.

 

The Sages travel to Prairie Central for a 7 pm kickoff next Friday.
