Monticello Hangs For Win Over Prairie Central

The Monticello Sages did not play their best but held off Prairie Central Friday night for a 14-6 win in Illini Prairie Conference football action Friday night in Fairbury.

 

Monticello drove 99 yards for their first score with 26 seconds left in the second quarter to go up 7-0 on a Lucas Lieb 1-yard touchdown run. The Sages scored on a 4th and long screen pass from 36-yards out by Alek Bundy to make it 14-0.

 

The Hawk's score closed the gap to 14-6 in the fourth quarter and were first and goal trying to spike the ball to stop the clock with under a ten seconds but a fumble on the snap resulted in a turnover and Monticello ran out the clock for the win.

 

Prairie Central quarterback, Billy Printz tallied 260 total yards finishing 14-for-26 for 134 yards and rushed 22 times for 126 yards.

 

6-foot-6 wide receiver Eddie Shumaker caught seven balls for 83 yards.

 

Monticello was led by Braden Snyder’s 217 total yards. He was 15-for-24 for 183 yards with a touchdown and interception through the air. He rushed seven times for 34 yards.

 

Lucas Lieb finished with 37 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.

 

Asher Bradd led all Sages receivers with 71 yards on six receptions.

 

Dylan Thomas finished with four receptions for 57 yards.

 

Monticello improves to 7-1 overall while Prairie Central drops to 4-4 overall.
