IHSA Football Playoff Pairings To Be Announced Saturday

It's a crucial Friday night in high school football action as teams have one last chance to solidify their playoff seedings and others have one last shot at getting that bid for a postseason birth.

Five wins is the number to be eligible for a playoff spot in the IHSA football playoffs while winning six games gets you a spot.
For teams with five wins, that might mean rooting for a rival to pick up a win in the final week of the season. That's because playoff points become a crucial number when selection Saturday rolls around.

Playoff points are a sum of the total wins of your opponents. The more wins your opponents have, the higher your playoff points and the better chance of a playoff spot you have.

Additionally, bubble teams might be rooting against a rival in the final week. Teams hovering on the cutoff of a particular class among the eight football classes could find themselves moving down a class based on the 256 teams and that qualify and make the postseason.

Saturday night, the pairings will be released starting at 8 pm.

Hear who's name gets called live on 95.9 FM WEZC and streamed live online at dewittdailynews.com.

We'll also interview area coaches about their team's, their season's and the upcoming playoff.

Again it's Saturday night starting live at 7 pm.
