Sages Blank LeRoy in Baseball Season Opener

The Monticello Sages used two pitchers to combine for a 12-0 two-hit shutout over LeRoy in their season opener at Monticello High School Monday afternoon.
 
Cam Wittig threw two shutout innings and Brock Wade closed the door with three shut out frames. Each allowed a hit. Wittig struck out four and Wade struck out six.
 
Monticello put up crooked numbers in the first and second innings. They scored five runs in the first, capped by a one-out double by Jeffery Willeaver, who's fly ball carried and one-hopped the right-center field fence.
 
Mitch Carr's two-run triple to center field highlighted a seven run second inning for Monticello, who racked up 11 hits in their first action of the season.
 
Alex Marquardt and Luke Stokowski each finished 3-for-3. Marquardt drove in three and Stokowski scored two runs and had an RBI.
 
Alek Bundy and Asher Bradd each scored two runs.
 
Monticello is scheduled to travel to Arcola Wednesday afternoon.
