2018 MLB Amateur Draft

1st Round Picks (Pick #)

4 WHITE SOX

2B Nick Madrigal, Oregon State

As a sophomore, Madrigal was the Pac-12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. He entered this season with a broken hand, but he came back with a vengeance, hitting .395/.459/.563 with six doubles, four triples and two homers in 29 games. He was also nine for nine in stolen bases and didn't commit a single error.

19 CARDINALS

3B Nolan Gorman, O'Connor HS (Arizona)

While the lefty-swinging Gorman strikes out a bit, he has some of the best raw power in this draft class. His elite bat speed should transfer to the pros. He's a slow runner and may not be able to remain at third base long-term, but the power potential is special. He's committed to the University of Arizona.

24 CUBS

SS Nico Hoerner, Stanford

Hoerner has never not hit, and he has a long track record of success against top competition. He has an excellent approach and developing power, and he's a good enough defender to handle shortstop now. There is some thought he will move to second base down the road.
