Illinois State Downs Murray State To Take Weekend Series

The Illinois State baseball team defeated Murray State by a final score of 9-5 Saturday afternoon in Murray, Kentucky. The Redbirds trailed the Racers 9-3 in the final inning before Illinois State scored six runs in the top of the ninth to beat Murray State 9-5. The Redbirds also won the series over the Racers splitting a Friday double-head 4-3 and 5-4.

 

Aidan Huggins led the Redbirds with a 3-for-6 afternoon with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Derek Parola drove in two with a double and John Rave, Joe Aeilts and Tyson Hays each had RBIs.

 

Matt Walker went six strong innings allowing two runs, one earned, on tow with with seven strikeouts to three walks. Jacob Gilmore collected his third save with a clean inning and two strikeouts.

 

Illinois State will face off against Vanderbilt next weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.
