Illinois Drops Two of Three in South Carolina Weekend Series

The No. 25 Illinois baseball team led Connecticut 2-0 and 3-1 but could not hang on in a 7-4 loss Sunday at TicketReturn.com Field. UConn scored four runs, three of them unearned, on just two hits in the seventh inning to pull ahead.

Illinois (7-2) issued nine walks and a hit by pitch to Connecticut (5-5). UConn plated its four seventh-inning runs via an error, two walks and a hit by pitch.

The Illini bullpen spoiled a quality start from Cyrillo Watson, who allowed three runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. Watson was responsible for the first run scored in the seventh before Sean Leland (1-1) allowed three runs, although none were earned, to take the loss.

Michael Woodworth led Connecticut with three hits and three runs scored. Jack Yalowitz paced Illinois with his second three-hit game of the season and Taylor added two extra-base hits.

The Illini lost 11-3 to No. 20 Coastal Carolina Friday, then won Saturday against their Monday opponent, Northeastern, 5-4. Illinois finishes its four-game weekend Monday against Northeastern at Springs Brooks Stadium.
