The Illinois State baseball team lost Tuesday Evening to the Milwaukee Panthers by a final score of 6-3 at Duffy Bass Field.
The Redbirds scored three runs in the eighth inning, and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth, but a groundout concluded the contest.
In the top of the seventh, Milwaukee scored five runs to extend their lead to 6-0 over the 'Birds.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Joe Butler singled on a hit that went off the pitcher to score Derek Parola for the first run of the game for ISU. Next, Jack Butler reached on a fielder's choice, but an error on the play scored Jordan Libman. Then, Aeilts was able to score later in the inning on a wild pitch to make the score 6-3 after eight innings.
Illinois State threatened in the bottom of the ninth, as the Redbirds had runners on second and third with one out, but back-to-back outs would end the game.
Aeilts finnished 3-for-5 with a double and run scored. Nick Zouras scored 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and both Butler's drove in a run.
Brett Wicklund pitched into the seventh inning. He finished with 6 1/3 innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits with a walk and struck out five.
Illinois State will head on the road to Omaha to play Creighton in a three-game series this weekend.
