Sages Hold Off IVC With Walk Off Win

Alek Bundy's suicide squeeze brought home Asher Bradd for the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning as Monticello withstood a late rally for a 4-3 win over Illinois Valley Central, breaking a four game losing streak Saturday afternoon at Monticello High School in Illini Prairie Conference boys baseball action.

Leading 3-1 headed to the seventh, Bradd was brought in to pitch the 7th and IVC started the inning with back to back doubles by Kam Wollard and Holt Geltmaker put runners on second and third. A walk loaded the bases and after Bradd struck out Brandon Ward, a strike out, Bradd struck out Gavin Pine but catcher Brett Macak couldn't handle the pitch and had to throw to first to get the out and Geltmaker broke for home and slid around Macak's tag.

A wild pitch tied the game before Bradd struck out Nate Cooley to end the threat.

In the bottom half of the inning, Hunter Williams grounded out to start the inning and Bradd singled into center field, stole second and advanced to third on the ball four of Brett Macak's at bat that skipped away from Cooley.

On the first pitch to Bundy, he bunted up the line with Bradd breaking for the plate on the pitch and he crossed the plate without a throw for the walk off win.

Despite taking the blown save, Bradd was credited with the win.

Noah Chase took the loss for IVC.

IVC ace Brady King lasted just one inning after fighting through a blister to start the second inning. Adam Heitzman was excellent in relief, going four innings and his only blemish a Macak two run home run in the third.

Despite only pitching into the second inning, King homered in the third to tie the game at one apiece.

Jake Edmondson started on the mound for the Sages with two scoreless innings. Andrew Rudolph threw 3 ? innings in relief. His only blemish was King's solo home run.

Wollard was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and Geltmaker was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base.

IVC drops to 5-6 on the season and 1-1 in the Illini Prairie.
