White Sox, Cardinals Win Sunday; Cubs Washed Out

>>Sox Get To Tanaka, Down Yankees

Tim Anderson hit his first career grand slam and Carlos Rodon pitched the Chicago White Sox to a 5-2 victory over the scuffling Yankees on Sunday.

Jose Abreu nearly had a grand slam as well - to almost the same spot in the ballpark - but settled for a sacrifice fly when Aaron Judge made a jumping catch in front of the wall. Held to one hit Saturday in a 4-0 loss, Chicago chased Masahiro Tanaka with nobody out in the fifth and won for only the second time in eight games.

Yoan Moncada had three hits and a walk for the White Sox, who stole five bases in the last five innings - several of them uncontested. Chicago won two of three to take consecutive series in the Bronx for the first time since 2002-03. Before last August, the White Sox hadn't captured a series at Yankee Stadium since 2005.

With the Yankees (6-9) missing five dangerous regulars from their lineup, Judge did all he could in this one. He scored on Luke Voit's double, lined an RBI single and threw out Moncada trying for a two-base hit. New York handed Tanaka (1-1) an early 2-0 lead, but he unraveled in the fourth and fifth as the Yankees lost their fifth in six games.

Rodon (2-2) allowed three hits in six innings and struck out five , improving to 3-0 in three starts at Yankee Stadium. He retired his final 11 batters after a visit from pitching coach Don Cooper.

Looking for his 150th career win, RHP Ervin Santana (0-1) pitches against one of his former teams Monday night when Chicago hosts Kansas City. The two-time All-Star was tagged for seven runs and seven hits over 3 2/3 innings by Tampa Bay in his White Sox debut last Tuesday.

>>Cardinals Outlast Reds in Mexico

Marcel Ozuna hit two home runs and Matt Carpenter connected for a tiebreaking drive in the seventh inning that sent the Cardinals over the Cincinnati Reds 9-5 Sunday for a split of their two-game series in Mexico.

Tyler O'Neill also homered for St. Louis. Yasiel Puig hit his first home run for the Reds and Jesse Winker hit his second in two days.

It was 4-all when Matt Carpenter opened the seventh with his second home run of the season, tagging Amir Garrett (1-1). Ozuna hit a solo homer off Jared Hughes and Jose Martinez capped the five-run inning with a two-run single that made it 9-4.

Ozuna hit a three-run homer and O'Neill added a solo drive as the Cardinals took a 4-0 lead in the first off Anthony DeSclafini.

The Reds rallied to tie it with a four-run fifth off Miles Mikolas. An error by Carpenter at third base set up an RBI double by Michael Lorenzen, and Winker's three-run drive tied it.

Puig homered in the eighth to make it 9-5 and the Reds loaded the bases, but Jordan Hicks retired pinch-hitter Kyle Farmer on a grounder to escape.

Hicks closed for this third save. John Gant (3-0) pitched one inning.

Dakota Hudson (0-1, 2.79) starts at Milwaukee tonight.

>>Cubs, Angels Washed Out

Snow and rain led to the postponement of Sunday's finale of a three-game series between the Los Angeles Angels and Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

A makeup date was not immediately announced.

Steady snow fell throughout the morning and a mix of snow and rain continued throughout the afternoon.

With the postponement, the Cubs decided to keep Tyler Chatwood in the bullpen for now and start Yu Darvish in the opener of three-game series in Miami on Monday night. Chatwood was scheduled to take Jon Lester's turn in the rotation after the left-hander strained his left hamstring.
