Girls Softball: Monticello Rallies Past Rantoul

Skyler Frye broke a 6-all tie with a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete a comeback 8-6 win over Rantoul in Illini Prairie Conference girls softball action Monday afternoon from Monticello High School.

 

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings but Monticello scored three runs in the third and fifth innings to tie the score at 6. Addison Wichus reached on an error to start the sixth inning on a play that was ten feet in front of the plate as Rantoul pitcher Lexi Sherrick and catcher Bella Shields collided and could not make the play. Their collision allowed Wichus to take second base on the play.

 

After lead-off hitter Max Daniels Struck out, Frye barely cleared the right field fence for the go-ahead home run.

 

Miranda Fogel picked up the win in circle for Monticello, going the distance with three strikeouts. 

The Lady Eagles stranded seven runners on base, with five of those in scoring position, all in the fourth inning or later.

 

Frye and Fogel each finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Fogel also drove in a run and Wichus scored twice for the Lady Sages. Avery Oberheim, Josie Nelson and Lizzie Stiverson each drove in runs in the win. 

 

The Lady Sages even their record at 7-7 overall and are 2-2 in the Illini Prairie Conference. 

 

Rantoul falls to 7-7 overall and are 1-3 in Illini Prairie action.
