Illinois State Rolls Past Evansville

Illinois State defeated Evansville Thursday afternoon at Duffy Bass Field, 11-2. 

 

The Redbirds got hits from eight of the nine starters in the lineup. Starting pitcher, Brent Headrick earns the victory, and now has beaten every team in conference play. 

 

John Rave's third inning home run to deep center field scored Nick Zouras and Aidan Huggins to stake Headrick to a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Joe Aeilts hit a bases-clearing double to drive home three runs. Zouras would later drive home two more runs on a single to center field. He would later score in the inning on a throwing error. Illinois State led Evansville, 10-2 after seven innings.

 

Rave and Aeilts each drove in three and scored twice, each finishing 1-for-4. Zouras was 4-for-4 with two runs batted in and scored twice. 

 

The 'Birds improve to 31-21, 13-6 MVC on the season with the win And return to action tonight for game two against Evansville. First pitch from Duffy Bass Field is scheduled for 5 p.m.
