Bears Trade Up, Take Georgia LB; Rams Take Goff No. 1; Packers Take UCLA DT

The Chicago Bears took Georgia outside linebacker Leonard Floyd with the ninth overall pick in Thursday's draft after trading up two spots in a deal with Tampa Bay.

The 6-foot-6, 244-pound Floyd is long and elusive off the edge and could put up bigger numbers in Chicago than he did in college. He led the Bulldogs in sacks for the third straight year with 4 1/2 and tied for the team lead with 10 1/2 tackles for loss last season.

The way they struggled to make plays on defense last season, it was hardly a stretch to think the Bears would address that in the first round. Chicago finished last in the NFC North at 6-10.

>>Rams Take Goff No. 1

The Los Angeles Rams have selected California quarterback Jared Goff with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, and the No. 2 selection for the Philadelphia Eagles is North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz.

It's the second straight year that two QBs were the first names off the board. It's the seventh time in the modern era of the draft since 1967.

The 6-foot-4 Goff started every game during his three seasons at California and set school records with 977 completions, 12,220 yards passing and 96 touchdown passes. The Rams traded with Tennessee to get the pick.

Wentz led the Bison to their fifth consecutive FCS championship in January. He passed for 1,651 yards and 17 touchdowns during his senior year that was shortened by a broken right wrist.

Philadelphia acquired the No. 2 selection in a trade with Cleveland last Wednesday. It's the first opening-round quarterback for the Eagles since they grabbed Donovan McNabb with the No. 2 pick in the 1999 draft.

>>Packers Take UCLA Defensive Tackle

The Green Bay Packers took Kenny Clark, a defensive-tackle out of UCLA with the 27th pick in Thursday night's NFL Draft.

Playing alongside Miles Jack, Clark was a hassle at UCLA. Scouts say he plays with agility and a high motor, creating issues for blockers.

The Packers learned last month, veteran lineman BJ Raji would be taking an indifinite leave from football, so the Packers drafting Clark is of little surprise.

The Packers passed on the troubled defensive lineman, Robert Nkemdiche out of Ole Miss, who wound up with the Arizona Cardinals two picks later.
