Monticello Rallies Past St. Joseph-Ogden

>>Monticello Rallies Past St. Joseph-Ogden

Braden Snyder scored two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter and a stagnant Monticello offense came alive late to rally past rival St. Joseph-Ogden 27-24 Friday night and eliminated the Spartans from playoff contention.

Snyder scored from 4-yards out and the Sages recovered an onside kick on the ensuing kick to get possession with two-and-a-half minutes left.

After a Nathan Harman first down run, Snyder faked a handoff to Harman, kept it and outran the Spartans defense to the end zone from 19 yards out for the game winning score.

Dwight Colvin tallied 170 yards on the ground with two touchdowns to pace the St. Joe-Ogden offensive attack. Colvin fumbled twice but the Sages offense was unable to capitalize on the extra possessions.

St. Joseph-Ogden finishes the season 4-5 and will miss the postseason for the first time in over 25 years.

Much like last week’s win at Prairie Central, St. Joseph-Ogden controlled the game and the clock with a strong run attack but the Sages made plays late and overcame another sluggish offensive effort.

The Sages finish the regular season 8-1 overall and will find out their first postseason opponent tomorrow night (Saturday night).
