Illinois State (8-5) beat Washington (7-8) 5-4 late Monday night at Husky Ballpark, giving the Redbirds a 3-1 series victory over the Huskies, their first over a Pac-12 opponent in school history.
Matt Walker (2-0) was stellar through five innings, allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out a career-high eight batters for the Redbirds.
A one-out, first inning double by Owen Miller got things started. After moving to third on a balk, Miller scored on a sacrifice fly by Collin Braithwaite for the first run of the game. Back to back doubles by Nick Zouras and Joe Aeilts staked ISU to a 2-0 third inning lead.
Illinois State would add two more runs in the top of the fourth, on a two-run double by John Rave that plated Derek Parola and Jordan Libman to make it 4-1
Washington tacked on runs in the fifth, eighth and ninth innings.
Miller paced the Redbirds offense finishing 2-for-5 with a run. Zouras and Parola each finished 2-for-4 with a run and Rave drove in two.
The spring break trip will continue Thursday, when the Redbirds travel to Hawaii to begin a four-game set.
