Ronald Benz, 75, of Clinton, passed away at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 21, 2016) at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.


His service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Greg Taylor and Pastor Dan Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kenney. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to First Christian Church, Clinton; the DeWitt County Animal Shelter; or Kenney Heritage Association.


Ron was born Sept. 16, 1941, in Monticello, the son of Howard B. and Hazel C. Stephens Benz. He married Donna Rae Polen on June 1, 1961, in Clinton.


Survivors include his wife, Donna Rae Benz, Clinton; children, Mike Lee (Teresa) Benz, Kenney, and Jackie (Fred) Bruner, Franklin, Ind.; two stepgrandchildren; sister, Sharon (friend, Willard Brown) Benz, Decatur; and brother, Rodger (Maria) Benz, Kaneohe, Hawaii.


Ron was a member of the First Christian Church, Clinton. He had retired from Caterpillar after 30 years of service and farmed most of his life in DeWitt County.
