George Louis Massey, 82 of Decatur, passed away at 5:07 pm Monday, May 20, 2019 at Liberty Village in Clinton.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Arthur Cemetery with Rev. Ted Hartley officiating. Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, is assisting the family with arrangements.
George was born October 31, 1936 in Weldon, the son of Oscar and Margie Lyons Massey. He married Lynne Funk on February 8, 1991 in Decatur.
He is survived by his wife, Lynne Massey of Decatur; 4 children, Tom (Kim Gaff) Massey of Clinton; Jeff Massey of Arkansas; Tina Massey of Clinton; Scott (Dawn) Massey of Clinton; stepson, Rob (Lisa) Funk of Arthur; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Rex, 5 brothers, and 1 sister.
George retired from Decatur Firestone after 31 years, where he was a member of the United Rubber Workers Local #713. He was also a member of the Decatur Moose Club.
He enjoyed hunting, shooting, fishing, woodworking and watching tractor pulls (especially the old John Deere tractors).
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy and he cherished every moment that he was able to spend with them.
The family would like to thank Liberty Village in Clinton, Harbor Light Hospice and especially the 5th-floor Cardiac Care nurses at Decatur Memorial Hospital for going above and beyond while caring for George.
