Dr. Harold B. Allen

Dr. Harold B. “Doc” Allen 90 of Clinton, Illinois passed away 7:52 A.M. February 19, 2022 in Clinton, Il.

 

Services will be 10 AM, Friday, February 25, 2022 at the Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Pastor Darrell Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, IL.  Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM, Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the funeral home.

 

Memorials may be directed to The Clinton United Methodist Church or the Strong Kids at the Clinton YMCA.

 

Harold was born Harold B. Porter to Bee and Norine E. (Jones) Porter on January 27, 1932 in Champaign, IL.  After a fatal car accident took the life of his father, Harold was adopted by Ernest E. Allen at the age of 8.

 

Harold graduated from Stephen Decatur High School, then Lincoln College of Chiropractic in Indianapolis, IN in 1958.  He also served in the United States Naval Reserves.  He was married to Joan L. Thomas in 1952.  They later divorced in 1984.

 

Survivors include his children:  Harold Steven (Stacy) Allen, Clinton, IL; Dr. Gregory Lee (Patty) Allen, Ocala, FL; and James Kevin Allen, Clinton, IL; grandchildren:  Dustin Allen, Gainesville, FL; Kari Harris (Tim Stanley); Rachel (Kyle) Tuggle, Amy Danison (fiancé, Dylan Seaman), Elizabeth Lyons (fiancé, Aaron Barnes) all of Clinton.  Also surviving are 11 beautiful great-grandchildren and his older brother, Dr. James C.. (Mary) Allen, Decatur, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and his grandson, Christopher Steven Allen.

 

Dr. Harold Allen started practicing Chiropractic in 1960 in Clinton, IL.  He was still in practice at the time of his death.  He was a dedicated citizen of the City of Clinton sitting on numerous boards including the YMCA Board, Clinton School Board, the Clinton Zoning Board, and the Mental Health Board.  He was a member of the Clinton County Club, the Rotary Club, the Elks Lodge, and the Eagles Lodge.  He ran the clock for the Clinton High School basketball program and the chains for the football program for close to 50 years.  He was an avid learner attending weekly case studies in Bloomington with healthcare providers throughout Central Illinois.  Doc was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church and was a very active member.

 

Doc was a wonderful man, father, and community leader.  He will be forever missed.

Beverly Jean Clemons

 Beverly Jean Clemons, 93, of DeLand, IL passed away at 1:15 PM, February 10, 2022, at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth, IL.

 

Services will be 2 PM Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, DeLand, IL with Pastor Chadwick Anderson officiating.  Burial will follow at DeLand Cemetery, DeLand, IL.  Visitation will be 1 – 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

 

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or Arbor Day Foundation.

 

Beverly was born December 6, 1928, in DeWitt County, IL the daughter of Willard and Faun (Plankenhorn) Smith.  She married H.. Duane Clemons May 17, 1949, in DeLand, IL.  He passed away December 28, 2003.

 

Survivors include her children, Rick (Carol) Clemons, Macomb, IL, David (Lynnette) Clemons, Decatur, IL, and Barbara (Rick) Kaja, Lodi, WI; six grandchildren, Kelly, Ricky, Patrick, Josh, Tyler, and Alex; and three great-grandchildren Lisa, Nia, and Robert Tyler.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard Smith; and one sister, Ruby Anderson.

 

Beverly enjoyed doing arts and crafts, reading, painting, and traveling. She was a member of DeLand Christian Church and Moundford Free Methodist Church, Decatur, IL. She was a member of the DeLand American Legion Auxiliary, volunteered at the Decatur Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, and Faith in Action.

Marvin Harris

It is with deep sorrow that Mrs. Judith Kay Martin Harris announces the death of her beloved husband, Marvin Eugene Harris, 76. Mr. Harris passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2022.

 

A funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL, with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, IL with Military Honors.  The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 12:00 until 1:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project,

Marvin was born on June 20, 1945, in Clinton, IL. He was the son of the late Marvin Byron Harris and Norma Jean Long Stiles.

 

He loved his wife of 53 years and loved being a family man with great pride, and he loved his children and grandchildren -- Anything to make them happy. He worked many jobs, including at Caterpillar as a machinist, to teaching classes at Florence-Darlington Tech in his retirement. Being able to teach the values of hard work to the next generation brought him great joy.

 

He enjoyed many hobbies: traveling with his wife, fishing, car shows, one of his favorites, model trains, and train shows with his son.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Judith Kay Martin Harris; sons, Martin E.. Harris, Christopher P. Harris, Jereme W. Harris; brothers, Clarence Stiles; sisters, Patricia Kochman, Darlene Root; grandchildren, Mitchell Harris, Weylan Harris, Austin Harris, Ashton Harris.

Charlie Alwood

Charles E. “Charlie” Alwood 77 of Clinton, IL passed away 6:40 A.M. February 8, 2022 at Manor Court, Clinton, IL.

 

No services are planned at this time. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with cremation rites.

 

Memorials may be directed to Lane Christian Church.

 

Charlie was born November 16, 1944 in Clinton, IL the son of John and Frances (Bateson) Alwood. He married Doris “Poge” Mandrell June 22, 1968 in Clinton, IL.

 

Survivors include his wife, Doris “Poge” Alwood, Clinton, IL; children, Michael Alwood, Springfield, IL, Susie (Steve Starkey) Schmid, Clinton, IL, and Claude (Gala) Alwood, Weldon, IL; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Dorothy (Art) Sutton, Bolingbrook, IL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers and sisters, and 1 great grandchild.

 

Charlie was as Vietnam veteran serving from 1965-1969. He worked for the Local #159 Laborers and retired from the Clinton School District where he was a custodian. He always enjoyed his trips to Kentucky.

Gertrude Parrish

Gertrude Elizabeth Parrish, 98, of Clinton, formerly of Weldon, Champaign and Monticello, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022 at home in the loving care of her children by her side.

 

Born May 14, 1923 in Ortonville, Minnesota to George and Gertrude (Lyman) Gardner, she married Robert Parrish of Clinton on April 18, 1948 at the Clinton Methodist Church.  Robert passed away February 5, 1999. 

The fourth of six children, the family moved to Clinton when Gertie was three.  She attended Clinton schools graduating from Clinton High School in 1941 where she befriended and fell in love with Bob as biology class desk partners and as he walked past her home on North Center Street after school to his home.  Their children are Paula Duvall, Curt (Dorothy) Parrish, Marta (Jeff) Hogan, Kent Parrish and Karl Parrish. 

 

Gertie graduated from the Peoria Methodist School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1945 and immediately began her career bravely serving polio patients at polio epidemic treatment centers for one year in Denver, Colorado and Urbana, Illinois.  In 1943 while in training she enrolled in the United States cadet nurse corps program.  She worked at John Warner Hospital in Clinton as an emergency, obstetrics, surgical and floor nurse and in private home nursing in Clinton.  She later was an emergency nurse for twenty years at the University of Illinois McKinley Hospital..  She was awarded the annual Service Award in Nursing in 2019 from Peoria Methodist School of Nursing for excellent service throughout her long career.  From her days as a candy striper in high school to her retirement from the U of I in 1991 she served faithfully in nursing for 50 years, mostly in night-time emergency.

 

Gertie was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, were she confessed her faith and was baptized.  She was a genuine and loving person to everyone, generously giving to families in need during the holidays and to young people at graduations.. 

 

Along with her children Gertie is survived by her 14 grandchildren Kim (Jay) Hamilton, Josh (Toni) Hogan, Jeremy (Jennifer) Hogan, Erin (Mike) Culver, Mike Duvall, Don Duvall, Steven (Kelly) Parrish, David (Lauren) Parrish, Michael Parrish (Nicole Andrade), Thomas (Hannah) Parrish, Eli Capilli, Joshua (Elizabeth) Capilli, Jesse Parrish and Kate Parrish.  She is also survived by her 19 great-grandchildren Christian Kovich, Matthew Kovich, Faith Kovich, Brody Culver, Riley Culver, Casey Culver, Kerrigan Culver, Ethan Hogan, Cannon Hogan, Brant Hogan, Tyler Hogan, Kayden Hogan, Parker Parrish, Jameson Parrish, Austin Parrish, Andrew Parrish, Clayton (Brooke) Hamilton, Carly Hamilton and Casey Hamilton.  She is also survived by sisters Margaret Pangburn and Connie Timms. 

 

Gertie was predeceased by her parents, former husband Robert Parrish, son-in-law Mike Duvall, sisters Georgia Thomason and Mary Ann Hamlin and brother Keith Gardner. 

 

Her children would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. William Lanker at Carle Monticello for his excellent attentive care and to the outstanding staff at Monticello Kirby Hospital.  We appreciate and thank Transitions Hospice for the fine care and support in recent days.

 

A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 16 from 5 to 7 PM at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton and funeral on Thursday, February 17 at 10 AM at the Weldon United Methodist Church.  Burial will be at Long Point Cemetery, Wapella.  In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Weldon United Methodist Church.

Linda Early

Linda Sue Early, 78, of Clinton, IL passed away at 10:48 AM, February 4, 2022 at Manor Court, Clinton, IL.

 

Services will be 11 AM, Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL with Chaplain Ellen Anderson officiating.  Burial will follow at Troutman-Polen Cemetery, DeWitt, IL.  Visitation will be 10 – 11 AM, Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Memorials may be directed to the DeWitt County Animal Shelter.

 

Linda was born January 19, 1944 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Lloyd and Mary Elizabeth (Welch) Polen.  She married her soulmate Joseph A. Early on December 9, 1996 in Decatur, IL.  He passed away March 5, 2021.

 

Survivors include her children, Carol Raines, Clinton, IL; Lorna (William) Polk, Wilmington, IL; Candi (Steve) Sieber, Essex, IL; and Nicole (Michael) Gear, Sheridan, IL; three stepsons; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; siblings:  Peggy Woodward, Weldon, IL; Ida Landstrom, Clinton, IL; Joyce (Roger Bernius) Smiley, DeWitt, IL; Jim (Judy) Polen, Clinton, IL; and foster-sister, Sharon Redman, Bloomington, IL.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, and four sisters.

 

Linda was a homemaker and an avid bowler.  She attended the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville, IL and was involved in several deaf social clubs.  Linda enjoyed gardening, quilting, and crocheting.  She also loved animals – especially her dogs.  Most of all Linda loved spending time with her family.
