HS GBB: Maroa-Forsyth Holds Off Monticello

Despite a frantic fourth-quarter comeback, the Maroa-Forsyth Lady Trojans held off Monticello 44-34 in a non-conference girls basketball tilt from Maroa Thursday night.

An Elizabeth Stiverson steal in the backcourt led to a fast break layup she was fouled on and completed the conventional three-point play to make it a 32-31 game. After a free-throw from Maroa-Forsyth on the ensuing possession, Emily Edmondson returned to the lineup Thursday and buried a three from the right wing that gave the Lady Sages a 34-32 lead, their first lead since the second quarter.

But that would be all the Lady Sages would be able to must as they turned the ball over three straight possessions after and Maroa-Forsyth closed out a 12-0 run to take the game.

Allie Robinson fueled a comeback in the second quarter that allowed the Lady Trojans to take an 18-17 lead in the break.

Monticello scored just four third-quarter points falling behind 30-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Edmondson led the Lady Sages with 12 points and Syndey Dowling added ten points.

Robinson led all scorers with 18 points, finishing 8-for-11 at the free throw line. The Lady Trojans finished 18-for-24 from the free throw line as a team.

Hallie Mitchell added 12 points for the Lady Trojans.

Maroa-Forsyth is 14-7 overall while Monticello drops to 5-15.
