Illinois' Kofi Cockburn was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced. Cockburn had an impressive debut with the Fighting Illini, averaging a double-double on the week while helping lead the team to a 2-1 record.
Cockburn becomes the first Illini freshman in 37 years to record double-doubles in each of his first two games.
His 10 points and game-high 11 rebounds with 2 blocks came in the Illini's season-opening win over Nicholls State then recorded his second-straight double-double with game-highs of 23 points and 14 rebounds on 8-12 FG in just 23 minutes in the 12-point win at Grand Canyon.
Cockburn was held to just 9 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks at #21 Arizona yesterday.
Illinois returns to action next Monday.
