Former Clinton Basketball Coach Hoping to Help Revive Argenta-Oreana Football Program

Argenta-Oreana High School administration last fall made the tough decision to cancel its varsity football season about two-thirds of the way through the season because of a number of factors.

Now, a former Clinton High School basketball coach is hoping to help revive the program. Clay Haurberg says the 2021 fall season was tough because numbers were very down in the program and the group they had was very young. To salvage the health of the program going forward and preserve the health of its very young players, administrators made the tough decision to cancel the remainder of the season.

While the situation was unfortunate, Coach Haurberg says the good that came from last year was the experience the young players in the program got. He is hoping to re-establish the identity of the program.

As the first week of fall practices wraps up, Coach Haurberg enjoys the togetherness of this year's team. He is focused on making the kids 'fooball smart'.

Coach Haurberg stresses the appreciation he has for his staff this year. He points out he has seven volunteer assistants that are giving their time this year to help develop the kids. He says in a small program, that is a really strong number of coaches and allows the team to break into smaller groups for more individual work.

Argenta-Oreana opens its season at Warrensburg-Latham.
