Bloomington Central Catholic Hoping for Big Step Forward in 2022

A key injury for the Bloomington Central Catholic at an inopportune time in 2021 derailed what could have been the Saints first playoff appearance since the fall of 2017.

Coach Kevin Braucht (brat) has very high hopes for his alma mater in the fall of 2022 and it starts with the motivation of just missing the postseason after their leading rusher, Jake Slaughter, went out with injury right at the toughest stretch for their schedule.

Coach Braucht brings back a very strong group of skill positions players that are rather young. It starts with his 6-foot-6, 215-pound junior quarterback Colin Hayes. Coach Braucht says it's about getting him to understand what he's studying to translate onto the field.

The Saints under Coach Braucht have taken to the spread offense that is become more popular in high school football but unlike a lot of programs, the Saints will go no-huddle and speed the game up a little bit.

If the Saints are to make the playoffs in 2022, Coach Braucht says his team will be well tested because the Illini Prairie Conference offers a great test week-in-and-week-out.

The Saints open the season at Pontiac.
