HS BBALL: Lady Maroons Outlasted By Central A&M

In a game heard Thursday night on WHOW, the Clinton Lady Maroons fell to the Central A&M Raiders, 40-34, in CIC Conference play.

The Lady Maroons last played a week ago, and that layoff may have led to a sluggish start.  Clinton fell behind 10-0 before finally getting on the board. They then trailed A&M 12-4 after the first quarter, and were down 21-12 at half before battling back in the third.   Clinton freshman Clara Dempsey got hot in the third quarter hitting four three pointers.  The Lady Maroons outscored the Raiders 20 to 9 in the third to take a 32-30 lead into the final quarter.  However, the lids would return to the Clinton baskets, as the Lady Maroons only managed 2 fourth quarter points, and they were unable to hold off the more experienced Raiders.

A&M improves to 17-11 with the win, and 6-1 in the CIC.  The Raiders were led by senior Julia Corzine with 16 points, and junior Jilyan Burgener with 13 points.

Clinton falls to 13-16 overall, and 3-3 in conference.  Dempsey paced the Maroons with 14 points, 12 in the third quarter.  Freshman Avery Smith added 12 points, and was named the Serv Pro of Piatt/DeWitt County Player Of The Game.  Junior MaKayla Koeppel added 4 points as well.

The Lady Maroons next host Decatur Lutheran Saturday afternoon. Our next Lady Maroons "Game of the Week" broadcast is next Thursday from Senior Night as Clinton hosts St. Teresa. Hear varsity action on all WHOW platforms.

A reminder - Tune in Friday night for our Maroons "Game of the Week" broadcast as the Clinton Maroons face St. Teresa in the Championship of the CIC Conference tournament from St. T.  Coverage comes your way just before tip-off at 7:30pm on all WHOW platforms!
