Comptroller's Website Promoting Pet Adoption

The Illinois comptroller is using her state website to help find new owners for homeless dogs and cats.

Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka says the initiative can save tax money in the long run by reducing local government costs for controlling and euthanizing unwanted animals.

The program dubbed "Comptroller's Critters" allows animal shelters across Illinois to post information on the state website. Topinka says 50 shelters have signed up so far.

Topinka often travels with her dogs and brings them to the office. She has three: Bella, Jack and Nora.
