WATCH Community Meeting Scheduled

On Wednesday, September 21, 2001, WATCH Clinton Landfill Association will present a community meeting at 7 p.m. at the Vespasian Warner Public Library’s Revere Room at 301 N. Quincy St., in Clinton, IL.

The meeting will feature a presentation by George Roadcap, PhD who is a geologist with the Illinois State Water Survey. He will present his study of the permit violations of the proposed chemical-waste landfill. Those violations were submitted as comments to the U.S. EPA by the Mahomet Aquifer Consortium.

Roadcap has been a principal investigator on several recent scientific studies of the Mahomet Aquifer. He is considered one of the current experts concerning the aquifer. He also serves as the technical advisor to the Mahomet Aquifer Consortium.

WATCH is a grassroots community-based volunteer group organized to oppose the permitting of the proposed landfill due to the risk of contamination it poses to the areas groundwater, particularly that of the Mahomet Aquifer, which provides water to most of DeWitt County and more than 750,000 people throughout central Illinois.

Again, the meeting is Wednesday, September 21, at 7 p.m. at the Vespasian Warner Public Library’s Revere Room at 301 N. Quincy St., in Clinton, IL.
