A Champaign man has pleaded not guilty to kicking and beating a homeless man to death.
Thirty-six year-old Jermaine Davis is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 54-year-old Russell Allen Stokes.
Stokes was found outside a building in Champaign early Friday and died at a local hospital. An autopsy found he died of brain and neck injuries.
Davis' bond was set Monday at $550,000.
Constance Chapple of Champaign has been charged with obstructing justice by cleaning up blood from an assault on Stokes and concealing a homicidal death by helping remove the body. She has not entered a plea and does not yet have an attorney. Her bond is $25,000.
