Blues; Hawks Lose In Game 1

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Martin Havlat's tally three-and-a-half minutes into the second overtime period propelled the Sharks to a 3-2 win over the Blues in Game One of their Western Conference playoff contest.  Havlat also found the back of the net in the second frame, while Andrew Desjardins split the pipes in the third for San Jose.  Antti Niemi [[ ANN-tee nee-EM-ee ]] kicked aside 40 of the 42 shots he faced as the Sharks took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven set.  Patrik Berglund scored twice in the third period for St. Louis.  Jaroslav Halak allowed all three goals on 34 shots for the Blues, who host Game Two on Saturday at the Scottrade Center.

(Glendale, AZ)  --  Martin Hanzal lit the lamp 9:29 into the overtime period to lift the Coyotes in a 3-2 win over the Blackhawks in Game One of their Western Conference playoff tilt.  Taylor Pyatt and Antoine Vermette both split the pipes in the second for Phoenix, which takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series heading into Saturday's Game Two at Jobing.com Arena.  Mike Smith denied 43 of the 45 shots he faced in the win.  Jonathan Toews [[ TAYVS ]] found the back of the net in the opening marker and assisted on Brent Seabrook's tally with 14.2 seconds left in the third period to force extra playing time for Chicago.  Corey Crawford allowed all three scores on 34 shots for the Blackhawks in a losing effort.
