A study from Illinois State University says wind-power generation has created more than 19,000 short-term construction jobs in the state and about 800 permanent jobs at wind farms. But Illinois is so far mostly missing out on potentially far more permanent jobs on the manufacturing side.

The study released Tuesday by Illinois State University and economist David Loomis highlights the economic benefits of wind power such as jobs and property taxes.

Loomis says wind power doesn't provide many permanent jobs at generation sites. But there are many more potential jobs in manufacturing. So far Illinois only has about 1,000 of those.

Fred Giertz at the University of Illinois is an economist not involved with the study. He points out that wind-power is heavily dependent on government subsidy.
