Candidates running for the U.S. House in central Illinois are making a flurry of last-minute campaigning stops.
The race in the 13th Congressional District has been contentious and characterized by mudslinging TV ads paid for by sources outside the campaigns. Longtime Republican Congressman Tim Johnson announced his retirement shortly after winning his primary.
Both Republican Rodney Davis and Democrat David Gill planned several stops Monday.
Davis is expected in Normal and Urbana with first term Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger. Davis is from Taylorville and is a former aide to Republican Congressman John Shimkus.
Gill was scheduled Monday in Edwardsville, Champaign, Decatur and Springfield. The physician from Bloomington appeared in Decatur with U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin over the weekend.
