Driver Pleads Not Guilty In Knox Student Death

A Galesburg woman has pleaded not guilty in a hit & run accident that killed a Knox College student.

33-year-old Lakeesha Smith's attorney entered the plea on her behalf during a hearing in Knox County court Wednesday. She's asked for a jury trial on charges that include reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Police contend Knox College Junior Tundun Lawani was crossing the street on Oct. 28 when Smith struck and killed her. Authorities say Smith was found hours later at her home.

Smith's trial date was tentatively set for Feb. 18.
