City of Clinton Joins Effort To Petition US EPA On Mahomet Aquifer

width=The Clinton City Council Monday evening faced a decision to join an intergovernmental agreement petitioning the US Environmental Protection Agency to designate the Mahomet Aquifer as a sole source aquifer.

width=Last week on Regional Radio News we outlined what this agreement would mean for the City if they joined in this petition. Monday Council members discussed the action further. Council Member Tom Edmunds was in full support of the measure, however, he did question why more tax payer money should go towards this when the Mahomet Aquifer Coalition was established several years ago.

One member of the Council did not see the value in joining the Sole Source Aquifer petition. Commissioner Nan Crang says she values the water, but because the City would have to pay to join the effort, she did not see the value in that.
