The two most miserable cities in the country are in Michigan. Violent crime, falling home values and abandoned homes helped doom Detroit and Flint, which placed first and second in "Forbes'" list of "America's Most Miserable Cities 2013." Illinois also has two cities in the top five. Rockford's double-digit employment put it in third place. Chicago is fourth because of its long commutes, falling home prices and brutal winters.
High foreclosure rates and government budget problems helped put three California cities in the top ten, including Modesto at number five. New York, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Atlanta and Cleveland are all in the top 20 as well.
