Department of Natural Resources officials and the DeWitt County Coroner’s office are investigating an accident that happened Saturday afternoon at Clinton Lake.

Details of the accident haven't been released, however, the accident claimed the life of 26-year-old Kurt J. Larson of East Debuque. Larson was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:10 pm.

The accident is under investigation with the autopsy scheduled for this morning.

DeWitt County Sheriff indicated via Facebook several agencies were involved in responding. "What most people did not see yesterday was the heroic efforts of the first responder community to reach this victim. Weldon Fire Dept, DeWitt County Ambulance Service, DNR Police, Sheriff Deputies, and Clinton Police pulled together in an instant to mount a difficult rescue."
"Several of them abandoned their vehicles and RAN through thick, dense woods to search for the boat, and then actually went into the water to aid the victim."
