State and Local Races All Heating Up For Tomorrow's Election

Voters heading to the polls tomorrow will have a number of key races to punch their votes for.

The most acclaimed of course is the Governor's race pitting incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn against Republican Challenger Bruce Rauner. There's also several other key races including state treasurer, comptroller, secretary of state and attorney general. The 13th congressional district has a key race between incumbent Republican Rodney Davis and Democratic challenger Ann Callis.

State Senator Chapin Rose and Representative Bill Mitchell are running unopposed for their respective districts, both are Republicans.

In DeWitt County, the highlight of the local election is the much anticipated race among the County seats. Districts B and D are all up for re-election.

In District B, incumbent Keith Koons faces a trio of challengers, including Christina Pruser, the widow of the late Tom Pruser who represented District B, Terry Ferguson and Randy Perring. Perring is the lone Democrat among the four.

Currently, Pruser's seat on the County Board remains unfilled.

District D of the County Board has five candidates, including incumbent Democrat Rita Sue Whitted (formerly Rita Sue May) and Republican incumbents Pete Daugherty and Doug Tucker.

Deomcrat Cris Rogers and Republican Melonie Tilley will challenge the three incumbents.

Also of local interest, there is a proposition question on the ballot that reads as follows: "Are you in favor of the permitting of a Chemical Waste Landfill in DeWitt County over the Mahomet Aquifer?"

DeWitt County Board Chair Sherrie Brown spoke about the question last Monday at a special candidates forum in Clinton.
