Judy Baar Topinka's son Joseph says he's watched his mom take some pretty nasty hits from her opponents over the years. He says her 2006 race against former Governor Rod Blagojevich was especially tough, but the tides have since turned.

Blagojevich used the "What was she thinking" tagline against Topinka on just about every issue during the race. He beat her out that year. Now, he's serving out a 14-year-prison sentence for corruption. Topinka was remembered as a hard working politician who fought for every person in Illinois, during a memorial service this morning. She died suddenly last week after having a stroke.
