Central Illinois Schools Sanctioned For Basketball Fights

Two central Illinois basketball programs have been sanctioned by the Illinois High School Association this week after a fight at a recent game.

According to reports, a Decatur McArthur High School player punched a Lanphier High School player during the final minutes of a close game on Dec. 19. Pushing and shoving followed and spectators charged onto the court before the game was halted.

The IHSA's sanctions include placing the teams on probation for one calendar year, and having team players complete courses on sportsmanship to avoid suspensions. The coaches of both teams are expected to take a seminar on teaching and modeling behavior.

Lanphier principal Artie Doss says he plans to hold meetings with parents and students to outline expectations for behavior at future games.
