A 25-year-old North Pekin man has died in a dirt biking accident in a farm field earlier this week.

Dewayne Appleyard died Monday after riding motorized bikes with another person in South Pekin. Capt. Craig Catton of the Tazewell County Sheriff's Department says Appleyard lost control of his bike when it struck the wheel of a mobile irrigation spray system and sent him flying into the system's tower.

Reports say he was airlifted to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said Appleyard suffered from apparent head injuries.
