Chamber Ag Banquet Recap

width=Around 75 turned out Saturday night for the Clinton Chamber's annual Ag Banquet at the Copper and Brass Room in Clinton.

Bob Utterback (right), President of Utterback Marketing Services, with over 27 years of experience analyzing commodity markets was the guest speaker for the Banquet. Since 1993 he has been an economist for Farm Journal magazine, and also makes regular appearances on U.S. Farm Report.

During his hour long presentation, Utterback gave his view of the current economic situations facing agriculture. Utterback says a lot of corn producers are holding onto their 2014 crop waiting for an upswing in the market, but he cautions that bounce may not come.

Utterback's outlook on soybeans is similar. He notes projections are calling for more soybean acres to be planted in 2015, which would add to already high stock numbers. He expects that to lead to lower long term soybean prices for producers.

Utterback notes Mother Nature is the largest variable that could change the outlooks for the 2015 growing season. He says adverse weather conditions would likely bring market prices for both commodities back up, but barring that he expects commodity prices to remain fairly flat through the growing season.
