Kentucky Stays Atop AP Poll; Texas Fights Past Baylor

>>Kentucky Tops AP Poll Again

 width=Kentucky is one week shy of a perfect regular season and on Monday remained a unanimous choice as the top-ranked team in men's college basketball.

The Wildcats are 29-0 with games this week against Georgia and Florida. John Calipari's team received all 65 first-place votes and a total of 1,625 points from the nationwide panel of the Associated Press for a fifth consecutive week.

Virginia remained second and is followed by Duke, Villanova, Arizona, Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Wichita State, Kansas and Maryland.

Gonzaga dropped four spots from third after a surprising home loss to BYU on Saturday, while Wichita State moved up three spots into the top 10 following its victory over Northern Iowa on Saturday that captured the Missouri Valley regular-season title.

The second 10 consists of Northern Iowa, Notre Dame, Utah, Baylor, Oklahoma, Louisville, Iowa State, Arkansas, North Carolina and West Virginia. Notre Dame dropped out of the top 10, falling three spots after a loss to Syracuse in its lone game last week, while Baylor had the biggest jump within the poll. The Bears moved up five spots from 19th after beating Iowa State and West Virginia last week.

Butler, SMU, Ohio State, Providence and Murray State are the last five teams ranked this week. Ohio State is back in the poll after dropping out last week, while Ohio Valley regular-season champion Murray State is ranked for the first time since 2012.

VCU and San Diego State dropped out this week. VCU lost twice last week, while San Diego State had just rejoined the poll for the first time since late December and lost its lone game last week against Boise State.

 width=>>Texas Upends Baylor

Texas picked up a much-needed signature win on Monday, fighting both figuratively and literally to upend No. 14 Baylor 61- 59 in overtime.

Isaiah Taylor hit the game-winning floater with 4.8 seconds remaining just minutes after a scrum he instigated resulted in seven players, including four Texas regulars, being ejected for leaving the bench.

The Longhorns (18-12, 7-10 Big 12) were in dire need of a victory having gone 2-9 against ranked opponents coming in. Ranked as high as No. 6 earlier this season, they are still in danger of being left out of the NCAA Tournament.

Knocking off a Baylor (22-8, 10-7) squad coming off wins over Iowa State and West Virginia gives Texas' resume a boost. The outcome also eliminated the Bears from having a chance at sharing the Big 12 title.

Demarcus Holland and Javan Felix came off the bench and contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Kendal Yancy added 11 for the victors.

Taurean Prince led Baylor with 17 points, while Rico Gathers totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort.

NCAA Top-25 Scoreboard
