Nathan Mumm reached base three times, David Vanderkloot drove in a pair of runs, and Austin Hopper and Daniel Caldwell combined to shut down the LeRoy Panthers offense in a 5-1 season opening win for Monticello.
Mumm reached base twice via hits and drew a walk to lead Monticello in their opener.
Caldwell and Hopper threw three innings apiece, Caldwell striking out seven and Hopper four, and held the Panthers to a run on four hits.
Jacob Burton also drove in a run for Monticello who benefited from three LeRoy errors.
The Sages are 1-0 on the season and take on Arcola this afternoon at 4:30.
