Rauner On Education

Governor Bruce Rauner is calling for a true accounting of the state’s public schools, something he says has some opposition from supporters of the status quo.

Rauner says he’s pleased ISAT is no more, though he’s worried about PAARC (park), another standardized test part of the Common Core curriculum. Rauner says there needs to be a true testing standard that will show whether schools are really helping students succeed.

During a discussion with the Large Unit District Association Superintendent in Springfield Friday the Governor talked about the state’s finances, saying Illinois will be in crisis mode for a while. Rauner says it’s not just about money, it’s about how to spend the money. Part of the Governor’s plan to transform the state’s education system is to get money out of bureaucracy and put it back into classrooms.
