Clinton City Council Hears Plans For New Multi-Purpose Pathway

Monday night at the Clinton City Council meeting, the plans were presented to the City Council for what a future multi-purpose pathway might look like in Clinton.

Mayor Roger Cyrulik says these plans have been worked on over the past several months and Monday, representatives from the Farnsworth Group brought forward their designs. He notes the plans include ways to incorporate surrounding communities' paths into Clinton's.

The Mayor indicates the pathway will incorporate both current streets and sidewalks, but the plan also calls to use vacated railroad tracks. Mayor Cyrulik believes the biggest challenge for a road bike path would be for the drivers of the vehicles.

The evolution and development of the pathway is going to take a good amount of time. According to Mayor Cyrulik, the Illinois Department of Transportation will likely heavily be involved and the City is likely going to have to pursue grants to fund the project.

The Mayor says any grants the city applies for would be done with the assistance of the Farnsworth Group. He notes they have worked on these types of projects in the past and would have prior knowledge of ways to access grants that could help in paying for the project.

Mayor Cyrulik adds it will be great to connect the path with other communities. He notes it will also be important the pathway get residents to popular spots like Weldon Springs, or even, Clinton Lake.
