Local Teen Promoted To Eagle Scout

width=Cameron Goergen, Boy Scout Troop 142 from Clinton, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. To achieve this rank, Scouts must complete a minimum of 21 Merit Badges in such fields as Cooking, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, Hiking, Communication, etc. He must also complete a service project that benefits his community. Cameron’s service project involved the planning, overseeing and building of 2 dozen new benches to benefit the C.H. Moore Homestead Museum’s annual Apple and Pork Festival. The benches will be used by thousands of people who visit the Festival every year.
The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting but also as he enters higher education, business or industry, and community service. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well-maintained over the years. Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout troop earns the Eagle Scout rank; only about 5 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. This represents more than 2 million Boy Scouts who have earned the rank since 1912. Nevertheless, the goals of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness—remain important for all Scouts, whether or not they attain the Eagle Scout rank.

Cameron is currently serving his Troop as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.
