Last Thursday night, the DeWitt County Board was presented with a check from the Clinton Landfill, for over a million dollars.
The check is a part of the settlement reached by the two sides last month. According to DeWitt County State's Attorney Dan Markwell, AREA Disposal paid in full, over one-million dollars as a part of the settlement. Additionally, Markwell says they have also received their first quarter's payment for this year.

County Board Chair David Newberg indicates they will have a court appearance this week to finalize their deal with the landfill, which will drop the lawsuit against the Landfill.

Newberg says because of the payment, the County should end up with a balanced budget and with money available next year. The County originally passed a deficit budget before the agreement was made and money from the landfill was added.
