Gallo Leads Rangers in Major League Debut; Cards Win, Cubs Lose

>>Gallo Opens Big League Career With Record Performance

Joey Gallo finished a triple shy of the cycle in his major league debut as the Texas Rangers romped to a 15-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series.

Gallo made his debut in place of injured third baseman Adrian Beltre and went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, four RBI and three runs scored.

Carlos Corporan clubbed a three-run homer and drove in five and Shin-Soo Choo added a solo blast and two RBI for the Rangers, who have won their last four. Colby Lewis (5-3) allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings for the win.

Adam Eaton hit a two-run homer for the White Sox, who have lost three of their last five. Jeff Samardzija (4-3) was tagged for nine runs on 12 hits in just five-plus innings.

Mark Reynolds had the only RBI of the night to back a stellar outing from Lance Lynn as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 on Tuesday.

Lynn (4-4) was brilliant in his outing, scattering five hits and striking out five in 7 2/3 scoreless innings.

Matt Holliday had his streak of reaching base safely to begin the season halted at 45 games after he was ejected in an 0-for-3 effort. The streak was the fifth longest to begin a season in MLB history and his 47 straight games dating back to last season was eight off Stan Musial's club record set in 1943.

Tyler Cravy (0-1), making his MLB debut, was charged with one run on four hits with six strikeouts in seven innings.

After getting blanked 1-0 in the series opener, St. Louis got on the board with one in the second. Randal Grichuk doubled with one out and Reynolds singled two batters later for a 1-0 lead. Reynolds was thrown out at second to end the inning.

Lynn, meanwhile, needed just that as he limited just two Brewers to reach second through seven innings.

In the home seventh, Holliday's streak ended after he was thrown out by homeplate umpire Joe West for arguing balls and strikes. Matheny was then subsequently ejected for coming to Holliday's defense.

Marcell Ozuna gave the Miami Marlins the lead for good with a double in the fifth as they defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-2 in the second of a three-game set at Marlins Park.

Brad Hand was serviceable once again for Miami, tossing six innings of two-run ball. Hand (1-1) threw five scoreless frames in his first start of the season last time out at Pittsburgh.

Giancarlo Stanton homered and Adeiny Hechavarria also knocked in a run for Miami, which had lost two straight.

Kyle Hendricks (1-2) took the loss for the Cubs after he went six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.

Anthony Rizzo and Junior Lake each had an RBI in the loss.
