The Monticello Sages boys basketball team will play for a Regional title thanks to a big second quarter effort as they beat Meridian 73-50 at the Argenta-Oreana Regional.
The Sages outscored Meridian 22-10 playing the second quarter without leading scorer Zach Fisher because of foul trouble and took a 34-25 advantage into the break and opened the second half on a 7-2 run to take a 41-27 lead.
The Sages largest lead would be by 25 late in the fourth.
Noah Freemon finished with 18 points to lead Monticello, who started slow, shooting just 5 of 13 in the first quarter but made 9-of-12 shots in the second quarter, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
The Sages committed just six turnovers and had 18 assists on 29 made field goals.
Zach Fisher added 14 points. Isiah Florey added 13 points and hauled in a team high eight rebounds.
Drake Baker scored 16 of his 19 points in the first half. Judah Renfrow added seven points and nine rebounds.
The Hawks end their season 17-12 overall.
Monticello improves to 16-8 and will take on the winner of Wednesday's Regional semifinal game between Argenta-Oreana and Decatur St. Teresa.
