Orioles, Fowler Agree To Terms

The Orioles and free-agent outfielder Dexter Fowler have agreed to a three-year contract worth $35 million, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. The team has not yet confirmed the signing.

The O's also agreed to a three-year, $35 million contract with free-agent righty Yovani Gallardo recently, but that deal is currently on hold due to medical concerns. Baltimore is notoriously thorough with physicals, so Fowler's deal is not done until the team says it's done.

Fowler, 29, rejected a qualifying offer from the Cubs early in the offseason, so the Orioles will forfeit their first-round pick to sign him. (They'll forfeit another pick if they complete a deal with Gallardo.) The Cubs will receive a supplemental first-round pick as compensation.

In 156 games last season, Fowler hit .250/.346/.411 (107 OPS+) with 20 stolen bases and new career highs in home runs (17) and walks (84). Fowler, a switch-hitter, has a career 95 OPS+ against righties and a 113 OPS+ against lefties.

Adam Jones is entrenched in center field, so Fowler will slide into a corner with the O's.
