The Illinois State baseball team gave up the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning and dropped the rubber game in its three-game series at Indiana State, 3-2, Sunday at Bob Warn Field.
Trailing 1-0, the Redbirds manufactured a run in the third inning after Derek Parola led off with a double. Jared Hendren bunted Parola over to third and Daniel Dwyer brought in the game's first run with a groundout to second base.
Trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning, Jean Ramirez brought Illinois State even with the Sycamores with a solo homer to left field. Ramirez's home run broke up Ward's streak of consecutive batters retired.
Both starters settled in after the third inning. Jacob Hendren retired seven-straight batters and Indiana State starter Tyler Ward sat down 12-straight Redbird hitters.
Hendren went seven innings, while giving up just two earned runs on six hits. Vogrin took the loss for the Redbirds.
Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a home run and Parola was 1-for-3 with a double.
The Redbirds will look to rebound with a Tuesday matchup at SIUE.
