The Monticello Sages used a nine-run second inning to overcome a fast start by the Maroa-Forsyth Trojans and win 11-5 in Okaw Valley Conference baseball game Tuesday from Monticello.
Trailing 4-0, the Sages rallied for nine runs in the second and would tack on a few more insurance runs in the third and sixth innings.
Jacob Burton finished 2-for-3 out of the lead off spot for Monticello with three RBIs.
Mitche Rhoades and Luke Stokowski each added two hits and two RBIs apeice finishing 2-for-4. Stokowski also scored twice.
Austin Wiggins added a pair of RBIs for the Sages.
After a slow start, Tyler Jones went four innings allowing five runs, all earned, on eight hits, issuing a walk and striking out six.
Nick Hopper went three shutout innings to close things out for Monticello. He allowed just a hit, a walk and struck out out.
Monticello moves to 10-5 overall.
