Maroons Lose Friday, Split Saturday

It was a busy weekend for the Clinton Maroons boys baseball squad this weekend, who were in conference action Friday afternoon then a round robin tournament Saturday at Bloomington Central Catholic.
 
Central A&M rallied late on Friday to come from behind and beat Clinton 4-3 in eight innings from Central A&M High School. 
 
The Raiders rallied to tie the score at 3 in the bottom of the seventh and force extra innings, then scored in the bottom of the eighth for the walk off win.
 
Matthew Overton hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to give the Maroons a 3-1 advantage. 
 
Logan Peterson also had a double on the afternoon.
 
Mac Hickman started for the Maroons, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits with 11 strikeouts and four walks issued.
 
Wesley Conn took the loss for Clinton. He allowed a run, a hit, a walk and struck out out three. 
 
The Maroons then hit the road north for a Saturday twin-bill at Bloomington Central Catholic where they split their two games there.
 
In game one, opposite Bloomington Central Catholic, Bobby Oates was too much on the mound as the Saints topped Clinton 7-1.
 
Oates allowed an unearned run on seven hits with a pair of walks and nine strikeouts. 
 
Parker West started for the Maroons. He went six innings, allowing seven runs on 13 hits with two strikeouts and no walks. 
 
Rustin Wertz led the Maroons, going 2-for-2 while Hunter Lash had a double.
 
BCC was led by Gage Juarez, who went 3-for-4. Keegan Bridges finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.  Bridges, Sam Heaton and Matt Barnes each added doubles for the Saints.
 
In game two, Keaton Thayer threw five innings of two hit, two run ball and the Maroons doubled up Salt Fork 4-2. Thayer had just one strikeout but did not walk anyone and allowed just an earned run. 
 
Logan Peterson went an 1.1 and Jake Wade finished out the final out for the save.
 
Wade, Mac Hickman and Matthew Overton each finished with RBI. 
 
After all three ball games this weekend, the Maroons are 7-10 overall and are 3-5 in Central Illinois Conference action.
